Create Tickets for your dance party
One way to make a dance party special is to let one of your kids be the Guest DJ for the night. Early in the day, or even a day or two ahead of time, sit down with them and have them pick the songs and put them into a special playlist for the dance party. This is a great time to talk about the music your kids are interested in and explore some new music as well. Maybe find a soundtrack to a newly favorite movie and listen to those track. In a way, this also let's your kids see that there is a good bit of effort to it.
When the party starts, let them pick when to jump to the next track and take control of the sound. This works best off a phone since you just hit the next track button, so even if you're a Semi-Pro Dance Party parent, go simple for this.
If you reach a point where you are inviting friends over specifically for a dance party, tickets can be a great way to make that event stand out more. I created two templates that you can copy and use or be inspired to create your own. They are 4x6 ticket card and 3 ticket stubs.
They are both 4x6(See "Why 4x6" below), I used the "4x6 ticket cards" when we have distributed out the tickets a week or so in advance. We are always careful about weather and so usually we only pass out invites a few days before the next dance party. We got an unexpected break in the weather one spring and my kids wanted to have a dance party that night so I did the "3 ticket stubs" version and they took them to all their friends in the neighborhood.
Why 4x6
If you haven't ever done this, let me share one of my favorite tricks for invitations. If I'm using my color printer at home to print invitations, I care about how much color ink I'm using. However, the cost of a 4x6 print at my local Wal-mart is the same whether there is a single line or the photo is covered in color. At 14 cents per print, I can print custom birthday party invitations for my entire kids class for under $5 and they look AMAZING.
Here's an example that I did for one of our birthday parties at a bowling alley. I started by search Unplash.com to find an image that works, "Cosmic Bowling" in this case. A few images in, I found the one in the image. I downloaded it and saved the "Photo by ..." information to recognize the photographer for their work.
After that, I went to Google Drive and created a new drawing, changed the page setup to be 4x6, uploaded the image and then added the details. Google has lots of unique fonts to play with, so have fun with it and create something special for your kids each time.
